Description

What kind of drug is this?

Cagrilintide is an analogue of amylamine, a hormone produced by the pancreas in conjunction with insulin. Amylamine helps regulate satiety and slows digestion. Regular amylamine is rapidly broken down, so cagrilintide has been made more stable to provide a longer-lasting effect. The drug affects the brain, reduces appetite, and improves digestion.

When is it needed?

  • To control appetite when overeating.
  • For type 1 and type 2 diabetes, to improve blood sugar control in conjunction with diet and exercise.
  • To reduce the risk of heart problems in diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
  • To reduce weight.
  • To enhance the effects of semaglutide, mazdutide, tirzepatide, and retartrutide, lower doses of these drugs can be used.

Studies have shown that cagrilintide is effective and safe. A US study involved patients with type 2 diabetes taking semaglutide, cagrilintide, or both drugs together. All participants continued taking metformin.

Clinical trials have shown that cagrilintide is effective in weight management and blood sugar reduction. It works on its own, and when combined with other medications, the effect is even greater.

Who is eligible for cagrilintide 20 mg in a syringe pen?

  • For overweight people who do not have problems with sugar.
  • For those with type 2 diabetes – before or together with GLP-1/GIP-GLP-1 receptor agonists (such as semaglutide, mazdutide, tirzepatide, retatrutide) to improve appetite and sugar control.
  • For people with type 1 diabetes who cannot take GLP-1/GIP-GLP-1 drugs, as an alternative.

Side effects:

The most common side effects include decreased appetite, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, slow digestion, and a feeling of heaviness in the abdomen. These are usually related to the way the medication works and appear as the dose is increased. They are usually mild to moderate in severity and resolve on their own.

When not to use:

The drug Cagrilintide (Amylin) is not prescribed to patients:

  • Anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer.
  • In multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2.
  • If you are allergic to cagrilintide or other components of the drug.
  • In case of intestinal obstruction.
  • For frequent gastroesophageal reflux.

Before starting treatment, be sure to consult your doctor to choose the right treatment regimen and ensure that you have no contraindications.

Application:

To reduce the risk of side effects, start taking cagrilintide at low doses and gradually increase them.

Recommended scheme:

  • Initial dose:  1 mg subcutaneously once a week (if taking it alone or with other medications).
  • Dose increase:  If you feel well, you can increase the dose to 2 mg starting in the second week. If you need better appetite control, increase the dose by 1 mg each week.
  • If you need more than 4 mg per week, give several injections in different places (at least 5 cm apart).
  • Maximum per week: 6 mg.

Missed a dose?

Get it as soon as possible, but no later than 5 days (120 hours). If more time has passed, simply skip the missed dose and take your next scheduled dose.

  • The day of the injection can be changed, but there must be at least 4 days (96 hours) between two injections.
  • If you use cagrilintide and insulin, inject them separately, do not mix them. You may need to adjust your insulin dose if you eat less.
  • PeptoLabs® Cagrilintide is administered once a week, at any time, regardless of food intake. Injections are administered under the skin of the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm, in a different location each time.
